Changing Lives
[00:43.70] It's Frank DiLella with New York One's On Stage, and we're here for the opening night of Eleanor!, the Eleanor Roosevelt musical
[00:49.94] Let's talk process
[00:50.70] (sung)
[00:50.94] When I'm in character, I go insane
[00:54.70] I stagger, I stammer, I sob
[00:57.95] I make the audiences feel my pain
[01:01.20] And if they don't leave depressed, then I've not done my job
[01:04.70] Each time I find a role like Eleanor
[01:08.19] The artist inside of me thrives
[01:11.44] I put on that wig and those prosthetic teeth
[01:14.69] And know I'm changing lives
[01:18.70] By the time I get tuberculosis in Act Two
[01:25.45] Even the people who are dead inside
[01:28.45] Will shout "Bravo!" on cue
[01:34.71] The first review is in! The New Jersey Star-Ledger
[01:37.19] Don't tell me, unless it's a rave. Or a mixed positive
[01:42.95] It says we're a hit!
[01:44.69] Oh my God!
[01:47.20] (sung)
[01:59.44] We're a hit and I think we deserve it!
[02:02.95] That's for sure
[02:05.94] Also, it means that this tour de force
[02:08.70] Will not be forced to tour
[02:11.70] To Eleanor! May she run for eternity!
[02:13.94] To Eleanor!
[02:17.70] Cheers to a show that's so inspiring
[02:20.94] It's almost too much to sit through
[02:24.20] And if we've won that might mean one more thing
[02:27.45] That in ten years or so, we'll do Eleanor 2!
[02:31.46] I can predict what the reviews will say
[02:34.19] Before the next note has arrived
[02:37.70] It's ground-breaking
[02:38.70] Earth-shaking
[02:39.45] Life-affirming
[02:40.44] Breathtaking
[02:41.20] Gut-wrenching
[02:42.19] Heart-aching
[02:42.94] In two words, it's history-making
[02:44.70] That's why every actor strives
[02:46.70] For adulation
[02:50.19] And compensation
[02:53.45] That comes from nightly
[02:56.44] Changing lives
[03:03.44] It's just what we do
