What is a Santa Claus

[00:00.18] …..Silent Night, Holy Night………

[00:07.67] About this time every year, the kids ask me,

[00:11.41] "What is a Santa Claus?"

[00:13.67] And I kinda smile and I remember when I was their age

[00:16.42] and the wonderment and excitement that was Santa Claus

[00:19.17] comes back to me.

[00:20.92] This magical, mystical creature,

[00:23.92] Who once a year brings so much happiness to so many people is with us again

[00:28.17] And, I remember.

[00:30.67] I remember what my mother used to tell me when I asked her about Santa Claus.

[00:35.43] She'd sit down and lift me to her lap and say,

[00:38.42] "Son, Santa Claus is many things.

[00:42.67] He's, he's a world traveller, a toy inventor, a diplomat,

[00:47.42] and he has the biggest and best delivery system ever devised.

[00:51.92] He's a genius who can pack more sleds, bicycles, and dolls,

[00:56.42] and candy and blocks and toy cars and airplanes into one bag than anyone else.

[01:01.42] And he can even get a supersonic robot who will play with a little boy

[01:05.43] in there too.

[01:06.17] He receives more mail than the President,

[01:09.92] makes more trips than the Secretary of State,

[01:12.43] and he gives your daddy more funny neckties than he knows what to do with.

[01:17.17] He's seen everywhere, standing on street corners, in department stores,

[01:20.67] on billboards,

[01:21.42] and some even say they've seen him high in the sky in his sleigh.

[01:26.15] Santa Claus loves little children and, and has seven wonderful reindeer

[01:30.18] that go with him every year when he makes his visits around the world.

[01:33.91] He has more friends and more helpers than anyone else on earth,

[01:37.92] and he loves the cold weather so much that he lives at the North Pole.

[01:42.91] Best of all, he doesn't ask much for his services, just that all little girls and boys be good and fair, and grow up that way to make the world a better place,

[01:52.17] and Santa's job a little easier.

[01:55.67] And so, when the children ask me,

[01:58.17] "What is a Santa Claus?",

[02:00.18] I tell them, tell them what my mother told me

[02:02.67] and it makes them happy.

[02:05.43] And I think when my mother told me,

[02:08.42] it made her very, very happy, too.
