[00:12.69] Well I'm on the Downeaster "Alexa"

[00:17.20] I am cruising through Block Island Sound

[00:22.21] I have chartered a course to the Vineyard

[00:27.72] But tonight I am Nantucket bound

[00:33.49] We took on diesel back in Montauk yesterday

[00:39.76] And left this morning from the bell in Gardner's Bay

[00:44.77] Like all the locals here I've had to sell my home

[00:50.54] Too proud to leave I worked my fingers to the bone

[00:55.05] So I could own my Downeaster "Alexa"

[01:00.56] And I go where the ocean is deep

[01:05.07] There are giants out there in the canyons

[01:10.59] And a good captain can't fall asleep

[01:18.15] I've got bills to pay and children who need clothes

[01:22.67] I know there's fish out there but where God only knows

[01:27.69] They say these waters aren't what they used to be

[01:33.45] But I've got people back on land who count on me

[01:37.21] So if you see my Downeaster "Alexa"

[01:42.48] And if you work with the rod and the reel

[01:47.74] Tell my wife I am trolling Atlantis

[01:53.01] And I still have my hands on the wheel

[02:36.38] More and more miles from shore every year

[02:41.14] Since they told me I can't sell no stripers

[02:46.90] And there's no luck in swordfishing here

[02:53.42] I was a bayman like my father was before

[02:58.44] Can't make a living as a bayman anymore

[03:03.45] There ain't much future for a man who works the sea

[03:09.22] But there ain't no island left for islanders like me
