[00:12.51] look at the chart it shows 8 Tense vowels
[00:16.26] and 6 lax and simivowels
[00:19.46] Tense Vowels? Lax Vowels?
[00:22.49] In some books,
[00:24.69] tense vowels are called long
[00:26.44] and lax vowels are called short.
[00:28.68] Since you will be learning how to lengthen vowels
[00:30.47] when they come before a voiced consonant,
[00:33.43] it would be confusing to say that hen
[00:33.98] has a long, short vowel..
[00:35.73] It is more descriptive
[00:39.01] to say that it has a lax vowel
[00:40.44] that is doubled or lengthened. here is the TENSE vowel..

[01:42.58] that causes two points of your mouth to come into contact,

[01:53.73] A consonant can either be unvoiced
[01:56.00] (whispered)
[01:56.98] or voiced (spoken),
[01:58.48] and it can appear at the beginning, middle,
[02:00.25] or end of a word.
[02:02.25] You'll notice that for some categories,
[02:04.00] a particular sound doesn't exist in English.
