[00:00.43] From artificial lights to late-night TV and now our smartphones, modern life is often blamed for ruining our sleep.
[00:08.40] But this study suggests our ancestors didn't get any more sleep than we do.
[00:12.38] The researchers monitored traditional societies in Namibia, Tanzania and Bolivia, where people live like ancient hunter-gatherers once did.
[00:21.68] They found they slept on average six and a half hours a night.
[00:25.40] Surprisingly, natural light didn't have as big an influence as was thought.
[00:29.12] Most people fell asleep hours after sunset.
[00:32.03] However, temperature was important.
[00:33.89] The morning's coldest point was when most people woke up.
[00:38.14] Insomnia was also extremely rare.
