y2mate.com - Leader of the Band

[00:20.26] An only child, alone and wild, a cabinet maker's son

[00:27.54] His hands were meant for different work and his heart was known to none

[00:34.50] He left his home and went his lone and solitary way

[00:41.26] And he gave to me a gift I know I never can repay

[00:54.51] A quiet man of music, denied a simpler fate

[01:01.50] He tried to be a soldier once but his music wouldn't wait

[01:08.76] He earned his love through discipline, a thund'ring, velvet hand

[01:15.27] His gentle means of sculpting souls took me years to understand

[01:23.02] The leader of the band is tired and his eyes are growing old

[01:29.51] But his blood runs through my instrument and his song is in my soul

[01:37.28] My life has been a poor attempt to imitate the man

[01:43.79] I'm just a living legacy to the leader of the band

[01:57.48] My brothers' lives were different, for they heard another call

[02:04.27] One went to Chicago and the other to Saint Paul

[02:11.50] And I'm in Colorado, when I'm not in some hotel

[02:18.53] Living out this life I've chose and come to know so well

[02:47.53] I thank you for the music and your stories of the road

[02:54.53] I thank you for the freedom when it came my time to go

[03:01.53] I thank you for the kindness and the times when you got tough

[03:08.02] And, Papa, I don't think I said "I love you" near enough

[03:15.53] The leader of the band is tired and his eyes are growing old

[03:21.79] But his blood runs through my instrument and his song is in my soul

[03:29.78] My life has been a poor attempt to imitate the man

[03:36.28] I'm just a living legacy to the leader of the band

[03:43.53] I am the living legacy to the leader of the band
