"The Wizard and I"
[00:04.37] [MADAME MORRIBLE, spoken]
[00:04.37] Oh, Miss Elphaba
[00:09.39] [MADAME MORRIBLE]
[00:09.39] Many years I have waited
[00:12.14] For a gift like yours to appear
[00:15.62] Why, I predict the Wizard might make you his
[00:20.13] Magic grand vizier
[00:24.12] My dear, my dear
[00:26.54] I'll write at once to the Wizard
[00:29.99] Tell him of you in advance
[00:33.54] With a talent like yours, dear, there is
[00:37.00] A definish chance
[00:39.65] If you work as you should
[00:44.43] You'll be making good
[00:52.93] [MADAME MORRIBLE, spoken]
[00:53.24] Welcome to Shiz!
[00:56.14] .
[01:05.98] [ELPHABA]
[01:05.98] Did that really just happen?
[01:08.90] Have I actually understood?
[01:12.64] This weird quirk I've tried to suppress or hide
[01:17.95] Is a talent that could help me meet the Wizard
[01:26.50] If I make good
[01:32.08] So I'll make good
[01:42.17] When I meet the Wizard
[01:45.62] Once I prove my worth
[01:48.81] And then I meet the Wizard
[01:51.20] What I've waited for since, well, since birth
[01:54.66] And with all his Wizard wisdom
[01:57.88] By my looks, he won't be blinded
[02:01.34] Do you think the Wizard is dumb?
[02:04.79] Or, like Munchkins, so small-minded? No!
[02:08.30] He'll say to me, "I see who you truly are
[02:11.78] A girl on whom I can rely"
[02:14.44] And that's how we'll begin
[02:17.63] The Wizard and I
[02:22.17] .
[02:25.60] Once I'm with the Wizard
[02:28.78] My whole life will change
[02:31.97] 'Cause once you're with the Wizard
[02:35.16] No one thinks you're strange
[02:37.82] No father is not proud of you
[02:41.27] No sister acts ashamed
[02:44.99] And all of Oz has to love you
[02:47.91] When, by the Wizard, you're acclaimed
[02:51.36] And this gift or this curse I have inside
[02:55.08] Maybe, at last, I'll know why
[02:58.02] As we work hand in hand
[03:00.94] The Wizard and I
[03:05.19] And one day, he'll say to me, "Elphaba
[03:08.38] A girl who is so superior
[03:11.83] Shouldn't a girl who's so good inside
[03:15.28] Have a matching exterior?
[03:17.71] And since folks here to an absurd degree
[03:21.43] Seem fixated on your verdigris
[03:24.88] Would it be alright by you
[03:29.13] If I de-greenify you?"
[03:34.74] And though, of course, that's not important to me
[03:37.93] "Alright, why not?", I'll reply
[03:41.11] Oh, what a pair we'll be
[03:43.77] The Wizard and I
[03:48.02] Yes, what a pair we'll be
[03:50.69] The Wizard and-
[03:52.85] .
[03:59.20] Unlimited
[04:03.24] My future is unlimited
[04:08.29] And I've just had a vision, almost like a prophecy
[04:13.10] I know it sounds truly crazy
[04:18.41] And true, the vision's hazy
[04:22.13] But I swear, someday, there'll be
[04:25.85] A celebration throughout Oz
[04:29.30] That's all to do with me
[04:39.70] And I'll stand there with the Wizard
[04:45.05] Feeling the things I've never felt
[04:49.35] And though I'd never show it
[04:52.01] I'd be so happy I could melt
[04:55.51] And so it will be for the rest of my life
[04:58.72] And I'll want nothing else 'til I die
[05:01.64] Held in such high esteem
[05:06.43] When people see me, they will scream
[05:09.66] For half of Oz's favorite team
[05:16.86] The Wizard and I
