[00:00.44] Steph: You listed travel as one of your passions.
[00:03.62] Tony: Yeah. But actually my passion is airport to airport, what happens between airports.
[00:12.92] Steph: So you like the flying then, the journey?
[00:17.97] Tony: Absolutely.
[00:20.09] Steph: What about that do you like?
[00:24.07] Tony: I love airplanes.
[00:26.46] Do I love airports?
[00:28.59] Not really.
[00:29.66] When I go to an airport I go to the window to look at the airplanes.
[00:34.96] Since the tender age of five I've always had this passion for airplanes, and my dream was to become an airline pilot.
[00:46.14] Steph: Okay. Have you ever flown an airplane?
[00:51.18] Tony: Have I ever flown in an airplane?
[00:53.04] Steph: Not in an airplane.
[00:54.63] Have you ever flown an airplane?
[00:56.76] Tony: I've never flown an airplane.
[00:59.42] I've been in the flight deck of a number of aircraft, but I've never flown one.
[01:07.38] Steph: Okay. So walk us through a trip with Tony.
[01:10.31] What's going through your mind along the journey from airport to airport?
[01:14.82] Tony: Well, just like the other souls on board, I go on, I sit, I buckle my seatbelt.
[01:26.51] I obey the commands from the cabin crew.
[01:31.29] I hear the pilots talking over the Intercom.
[01:35.80] But I take it another step further.
[01:37.93] I actually listen to the details of what the pilots are saying.
[01:45.65] I'm thinking about what's the weather going to be like, what's the weather on the ground, what's the surface winds on the runway?
[01:52.30] All these things that regular passengers don't think about when they're sitting in the seat and they're just like.
[01:55.75] Steph: Yeah. I certainly don't think about that, no. I am probably just relaxing, and maybe once in a while looking out the window, if I'm privileged enough to get a window seat.
[02:05.31] And just seeing how pretty it is.
[02:08.49] Tony: And if you're looking out, and you say you have a seat just over the wing, you're looking out and you're like, oh, there's the wing. It looks nice, long, okay.
[02:18.59] Steph: I don't even think that much at any rate.
[02:20.45] Tony: Yeah. Yeah. But to me, I'm looking at the wing and I'm like, that's the forward slats, those are the landing flaps, that's the spoiler.
[02:30.00] Oh, look at the winglet at the end. Yeah.
[02:31.87] Steph: Okay. No, I'm definitely not thinking that at all.
[02:37.18] So you actually don't care about the cities that you're traveling to, and seeing new places?
[02:45.44] Tony: No, no, no. Don't get me wrong.
[02:46.49] I actually do.
[02:49.41] I've had the fortune of visiting some really amazing places, like Glasgow, Scotland, which I do love.
[02:57.65] Meeting the people, meeting different people actually is something I look forward to.
[03:04.56] And the architecture and all the fun stuff, like art, artworks and crafts and all that stuff that when you travel you always try to secure before you return home.
[03:20.23] But yeah, I do, I do like the experiences outside of aviation when it comes to traveling.
[03:29.00] But for me, you may think it's weird, but it's still aviation for me.
[03:34.57] That's the top.
[03:36.16] That's definitely at the top of the list for me.
[03:42.29] When it comes to flight there are five critical phases.
[03:46.01] You have takeoff, climb out, cruise, descent and landing.
[03:52.12] Even at the end of a flight, coming to the end just before landing, the pilots are trying their best to keep the nose of the airplane training down the center line of the runway.
[04:04.60] After landing, when we're deplaning, I would often stop at the flight deck door and I'll be like, "What happened there just before touchdown?"
[04:15.50] And the pilots would laugh and be like, "Oh, just a little gust. Nothing really.
[04:20.54] But we're on the ground, we're safe."
[04:23.73] Steph: Oh my gosh. So basically you're grading the pilot as you are taking a trip somewhere.
[04:31.69] Tony: Weird. It's so weird, right?
[04:33.03] Steph: Absolutely. Absolutely weird.
[04:35.94] Tony: That's what aviation buffs do.
[04:40.19] Steph: Crazy. Crazy.
