7.Dan Fogelberg - Leader of the Band

[00:17.99] An only child, alone and wild, a cabinet maker's son

[00:28.51] His hands were meant for different work and his heart was known to none

[00:35.75] He left his home and went his lone and solitary way

[00:42.00] And he gave to me a gift I know I never can repay

[00:53.26] A quiet man of music, denied a simpler fate

[01:02.50] He tried to be a soldier once but his music wouldn't wait

[01:09.50] He earned his love through discipline, a thund'ring, velvet hand

[01:16.27] His gentle means of sculpting souls took me years to understand

[01:23.74] The leader of the band is tired and his eyes are growing old

[01:30.25] But his blood runs through my instrument and his song is in my soul

[01:38.26] My life has been a poor attempt to imitate the man

[01:44.77] I'm just a living legacy to the leader of the band

[01:51.76] My brothers' lives were different, for they heard another call

[02:05.00] One went to Chicago and the other to Saint Paul

[02:12.50] And I'm in Colorado, when I'm not in some hotel

[02:19.27] Living out this life I've chose and come to know so well

[02:48.26] I thank you for the music and your stories of the road

[02:55.24] I thank you for the freedom when it came my time to go

[03:02.26] I thank you for the kindness and the times when you got tough

[03:08.99] And, Papa, I don't think I said "I love you" near enough

[03:16.24] The leader of the band is tired and his eyes are growing old

[03:22.77] But his blood runs through my instrument and his song is in my soul

[03:30.52] My life has been a poor attempt to imitate the man

[03:36.75] I'm just a living legacy to the leader of the band

[03:43.99] I am the living legacy to the leader of the band
