[00:00.00] MacOS is the proprietary operating system used by Apple’s Mac computers, and it is not included with any other computer.

[00:06.57] The easiest way to run macOs is to buy a MacBook, but they are unfortunately quite expensive.

[00:11.41] The second easiest method is to run macOS on a virtual machine.

[00:14.85] With a computer that meets hardware and software requirements, a software patch, and a macOS image, a virtual machine can be created to run macOS.

[00:22.87] Before beginning, it is important to ensure the host computer is capable of running a virtual machine.

[00:27.74] The computer should have an Intel CPU with a minimum 1.35GHz clock speed

[00:32.03] (most modern processors will likely double or triple that) and be running Windows 10.

[00:36.59] The computer also needs at least 4GB of memory and 64GB of storage.

[00:40.89] Although the process works with other processors and host operating systems, this paper will only cover one case.

[00:46.57] The next step is to enable virtualization and reboot the computer.

[00:50.57] The setting can be found in the computer’s UEFI or BIOS, but the process of accessing the BIOS and locating the virtualization setting differs based on the manufacturer.

[00:58.85] Finally, it is important to understand that this process will violate the macOS EULA (end user license agreement).

[01:03.70] The next step is to download and install VMware workstation player, the VMware unlocker, and a macOS image.

[01:09.98] VMware workstation player is the program that will run the virtual machine.

[01:15.12] To install it, visit vmware.com/products/workstation-player/workstation-player-evaluation.html

[01:15.89] and follow the on-screen prompts for Windows.

[01:18.46] The VMware unlocker is necessary to allow VMware to create virtual machines running macOS because VMware cannot do so by default for legal reasons.

[01:26.75] To install it, visit github.com/paolo-projects/auto-unlocker/releases/tag/v1.1.1 ,

[01:28.18] download the Unlocker.zip file, and extract it.

[01:31.03] Then, open the extracted folder and run unlocker.exe as an administrator.

[01:35.89] Downloading the macOS image is the most difficult step because the only official source is the Mac App Store.

[01:41.33] One option is to visit isoriver.com/macos-mojave-10-14-download/ to download the macOS Mojave iso.

[01:45.61] Note that this is not the most recent version of macOS, but most newer versions should work.

[01:50.75] Additionally, isoriver.com only has a dmg file for macOS Catalina (the newest version), which would take an extra step to be converted to iso.

[01:57.61] The final step is to create a virtual machine that runs macOS.

[02:00.39] Open the VMware workstation player and select “create a new virtual machine”.

[02:04.09] Select the “installer disc image file (iso)” option and browse to the recently downloaded macOS iso.

[02:09.23] Select the macOS and the version that is being used.

[02:14.38] For example, Mojave is “Mac OS X 10.14” and Catalina is “Mac OS X 10.15”.

[02:20.96] Once that is done, follow the rest of the setup wizard, and select “finish”.

[02:26.96] Run the macOS virtual machine, follow the installation process, and select “Disk Utility” when prompted.

[02:32.11] Select the “VMware Virtual SATA” drive and erase it.

[02:35.25] Then, close the disk utility and select “Install macOS”.

[02:38.40] If an error pops up with the message “This copy of Install macOS is damaged, and can’t be used to install macOS”,

[02:40.39] it means the certificate for the image has expired.

[02:43.24] Go to “utilities”, open the terminal, and change the date to 2016 by typing “date 010101012016”.

[02:46.95] If the problem persists, disconnect the host computer from the internet to prevent the virtual machine from accessing the network time.

[02:53.53] Continue the macOS installation to finish setting up the virtual machine.

[02:57.53] There are many reasons to run macOS in a virtual machine, one being to try out the Mac operating system before buying a MacBook.

[03:04.40] A macOS running on a VM could also be used to download a legitimate copy of macOS

[03:08.39] from the Mac App Store in order to install macOS directly on another computer.

[03:13.10] Although Windows 10 and an Intel processor are used here, the main steps of downloading a virtual machine program,

[03:19.10] patching it to allow macOS, downloading a macOS image, and running it on a virtual machine are applicable on

[03:23.97] AMD processors, most major Linux distributions, older Windows versions, and more.
