[00:00.63] John: So Sarah, you're an English teacher, right?

[00:03.64] Sarah: That's right.

[00:05.38] John: You must have taught in many countries before.

[00:06.63] Sarah: Yeah, I did. I taught in the USA, in Taiwan, China, South Korea, Japan and Ecuador.

[00:17.63] John: Oh, Ecuador.

[00:19.13] Sarah: Yeah.

[00:19.88] John: So you must be able to speak Spanish very well.

[00:22.88] Sarah: I think so. I studied really hard, and then when I lived in Ecuador, I spent a lot of time talking to people.

[00:29.88] John: Did you teach Spanish, too?

[00:31.88] Sarah: No, I didn't. When I lived in Ecuador actually, I volunteered for the United Nations.

[00:39.38] John: Wow.

[00:40.38] Sarah: And I taught families and they were being relocated to Canada because they were fleeing the drug wars of Colombia.

[00:51.38] John: Wow.

[00:52.38] Sarah: So I felt very badly for these families but they had a really bright future.

[00:56.38] So that was good. But then one week, I had a family, a couple of families and they were being relocated to Sweden.

[01:06.13] John: Oh.

[01:07.88] Sarah: And I said, "I can't teach them Swedish." And the UN said, "Well, maybe just teach them English."

[01:17.13] So I thought, they're going to Sweden, they don't need to learn English right now.

[01:21.13] And my friend at the time – she's Norwegian, and we were living together.

[01:27.13] And every day, she helped me to learn a little bit of Swedish.

[01:33.88] Just enough for one class so that I could teach these families…

[01:38.88] John: Wait, wait.

[01:39.63] Sarah: …some Swedish.

[01:40.88] John: You were teaching Swedish language?

[01:43.13] Sarah: Yes.

[01:45.38] John: You are an English speaker.

[01:47.63] Sarah: Yes.

[01:48.38] John: You lived in Ecuador.

[01:49.63] Sarah: Yes.

[01:50.38] John: And a Norwegian person taught you Swedish.

[01:53.13] Sarah: Yes.

[01:53.63] John: So you could teach Swedish to people from Ecuador.

[01:57.38] Sarah: From Colombia, currently living in Ecuador.

[02:00.13] John: So they could move to Sweden.

[02:02.13] Sarah: Yes.

[02:03.13] John: And you did this as a volunteer.

[02:07.88] Sarah: Yeah. I wanted to help people.

[02:10.38] So I moved to Ecuador and I got a volunteer job with the United Nations to help teach people but I never thought I would be teaching Swedish.

[02:22.63] John: Wow.

[02:23.63] Sarah: Yeah. It was a lot of fun.

[02:25.38] John: I would like to try that someday, too.

[02:28.63] Sarah: You can do it.
