[00:00.63] Todd: Okay, so I'm here with Jen and we're talking about clothing. Now, Jen, I'm a bit older than you, so I probably don't really care about what I wear so much.
[00:13.13] I always kind of pay the same price for my clothing. So I'm wondering, what's it like for a younger person?
[00:19.14] How much are you willing to pay? What is your price range?
[00:22.38] Jen: It depends upon like what you're buying. For example, if it's a pair of jeans then I would pay around 4,000 yen, that's Japanese yen. $40?
[00:36.39] Todd: Oh really? That's still relatively cheap. Like some people pay like $100, right? Or $200.
[00:43.63] Jen: I don't think I would ever pay that much because I'm a student right now,so paying more than that would be something I wouldn't do.
[00:52.88] Todd: Well what about in your home country of Nepal? How much would people pay for pants there?
[00:56.88] Jen: In Nepal, like compared to Japan, it's really cheap there. You can actually get a really decent pant in 1,500 yen.
[01:05.38] Todd: That's like $15.
[01:06.63] Jen: Yes.
[01:07.38] Todd: Around. Oh that's good. What's the cheapest you would pay?
[01:12.88] I mean, I guess you could get stuff for free, but what's the lowest you pay for clothes? Or for pants? For pants?
[01:18.64] Jen: Okay, so sometimes when there's a sale and especially if there's shorts then you can just get it for like 500 yen.
[01:29.13] Todd: Oh wow. Five bucks.
[01:30.39] Jen: Like five bucks, yeah.
[01:31.63] Todd: That's good. Now what about shoes? Do you have a lot of shoes?
[01:35.63] Jen: Yes I do.
[01:36.63] Todd: Okay, for some people like shoes they spend a lot of money on shoes.
[01:40.39] I have a rule, unless it's dress shoes for work, I don't like to spend anything over $100. If it's athletic shoes, like sneakers, never more than $50. Ever.
[01:51.13] Jen: Okay.
[01:54.38] Todd: Like how much do you on average pay for shoes?
[01:57.13] Jen: I think it's different for girls, because our shoes range from $10 to, you know, a lot of money.
[02:07.39] Todd: What's the most you've ever paid for a pair of shoes?
[02:12.13] Jen: $100.
[02:13.13] Todd: Oh really? That's not too bad.
[02:14.13] Jen: Yeah, it's not bad at all.
[02:15.63] Todd: Yeah, no, that's good. Kind of good range. How about the cheapest? Five bucks?
[02:20.38] Jen: Not five bucks, maybe 10 bucks, yeah.
[02:23.38] Todd: 10 bucks, yeah. All right. I don't even know if I could find shoes for five dollars. They'd fall apart, right?
[02:29.13] Jen: You can, though.
[02:30.13] Todd: Oh yeah?
[02:30.63] Jen: Yeah. On sale you can even get it in like three bucks.
[02:33.38] Todd: Okay. That brings up a good question because we're talking about shoes.
[02:37.13] How important is fashion for you? Are you willing to wear uncomfortable clothing to look good?
[02:43.88] Jen: Not always, because I really like comfort. I would rather wear pajamas and go out than, like you know, wear something really uncomfortable.
[02:58.39] But it depends, like if you're going to a party then you would obviously want to look good and wouldn't really care about comfort much.
[03:05.14] But in a daily basis, I would go for comfort always.
[03:08.64] Todd: Okay. Nice. How about for example, jewelry? Do you like to wear necklaces, earrings, rings, things like that?
[03:19.64] Jen: No, I'm not much of an accessories person.
[03:22.64] Todd: Okay. Now in your home country, Nepal, is it common for people to wear a lot of jewelry?
[03:28.88] Jen: Yes, they do.
[03:29.64] Todd: Oh yeah? Oh, okay. What do people like to wear?
[03:33.39] Jen: Everyone prefers gold I guess, because it's like people think that if you wear gold then you are rich. And yeah, gold, silver, and some wear diamonds.
[03:47.38] Todd: Okay, nice. Nice. I don't have any jewelry, I don't think. Oh wow, I didn't even realize that. I don't have one piece of jewelry.
[03:56.38] Jen: Really?
[03:56.88] Todd: Yeah, I have no rings. No necklaces. I have a broken watch. But yeah.
[04:03.89] Jen: Don't you ever feel like buying one though? Don't you ever follow a trend and thought about piercing your ears or something?
[04:12.38] Todd: That would be interesting, piercing my ears. You know, when I was your age, which was about over 20 years ago, it was just starting to happen that boys or men would pierce their ears.
[04:23.13] But it was a bit controversial, it wasn't like it's common now. So yeah.
[04:28.13] Jen: What about necklaces?
[04:29.88] Todd: Yeah, I used to have a necklace, yeah. And I just stopped wearing them, it's just not a thing. Yeah.
[04:36.38] How about you? Would you like to have piercings? Like do you have, you have earrings, right?
[04:43.38] Jen: Yes, I do, but I rarely use them because at some point it's just hurts and you just feel like you don't really need it, so yeah.
[04:52.38] Todd: What about in your country, do people have piercings in different places like eyelids or lips or ... ? Like a nose ring?
[04:59.88] Jen: Yeah, they have nose ring and then they also pierce their ears, like in so many different places.
[05:06.13] But I've never really seen anyone really piercing their eyelids or stuff. I would want to pierce my-
[05:14.38] Todd: Belly button? The belly button?
[05:16.38] Jen: Yes.
[05:16.63] Todd: Oh my gosh, that looks like it would hurt.
[05:17.38] Jen: I know-
[05:18.38] Todd: So much.
[05:18.63] Jen: -but I really want to do it.
[05:20.13] Todd: Really? All right, well, just be careful.
[05:23.88] Jen: Okay, I will
